Oracle Database Administrator

About the Role

Donegal Insurance Group has an opening for an Oracle Database Administrator. As a member of our Information Services team, this position will help support expanding Oracle environments and ensure  database availability and performance consistent with required SLAs. The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day Oracle Database administration across all Oracle environments.

Knowledge and experience with Oracle databases on Linux/Unix platforms, strong experience with Oracle advanced features such as Multitenant, RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN (backup/data recovery), Oracle Advanced Compression, and Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

This position requires working with all IS teams to ensure database availability and performance consistent with required SLAs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Database Installation and Configuration:
    • Install and configure Oracle databases on Exadata Cloud at Customer infrastructure.
    • Ensure proper setup and configuration of database parameters to optimize performance and resource utilization
  • Monitoring and Performance Tuning:
    • Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
    • Conduct performance tuning activities such as SQL optimization, index management, and database parameter tuning.
    • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions to ensure the availability and performance of databases.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
    • Perform regular backups and validate the integrity of backup data.
    • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans using Data Guard and conduct regular testing.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce security policies and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
    • Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Patch Management and Upgrades:
    • Plan and execute database patching and upgrades in accordance with best practices and vendor recommendations.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders to minimize downtime and ensure seamless transition during upgrades.
  • Capacity Planning and Resource Management:
    • Monitor resource utilization and plan for capacity upgrades as needed.
    • Optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient utilization of Exadata infrastructure.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline routine tasks and processes.
    • Implement automation solutions for monitoring, alerting, and maintenance activities.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
    • Share knowledge and best practices with team members and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 6-8 years hands-on experience with Oracle databases on Linux/Unix Platform.
  • Strong experience with Oracle advanced features such as Multitenant, RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN (backup/data recovery), Oracle Advanced Compression, and Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
  • Strong experience in production support, resolution of complex operational issues, and performance issues in OLTP and Data Warehouse environments
  • Experience in capacity planning and resource usage analysis
  • Strong experience with Oracle Cloud Control (OEM): monitoring, alerting, job scheduling, etc.
  • Strong Experience in Proof-of-Concept projects, testing and certification of new features
  • 2-3 years of experience in Unix/Linux Basic Administration.
  • Basic knowledge of automation scripting (UNIX, PowerShell).
  • 2-3 years of experience with PL/SQL.
  • Proficiency in managing Oracle databases on Exadata infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Oracle and SQL ancillary tools such as TOAD, SSMS and SQL Developer.
  • Ability to work on-call to provide 24-7 support for Production systems.
  • Oracle 12c -19c Database Internals and Administration
